Preparing to travel
What to sort out before a trip — from supplies to insurance.
Start early
Travelling with GSD does not begin at the airport but a few weeks before. Three things reliably take time: supplies, paperwork and contacts.
Supplies
- Cornstarch and special nutrition rarely fit in a suitcase for longer stays. Find out in advance which brands are available at your destination — members living there usually know.
- Pack a buffer for delays: missed connections, strikes, lost luggage.
- Spread supplies across several bags and travellers.
Paperwork
- A doctor's letter explains why cornstarch, Glycosade and other supplies belong in hand luggage. Friends travelling with you benefit from their own copy.
- Emergency letter in the local language. Also for English-speaking destinations — in an emergency room what counts is that someone understands it immediately.
- Insurance card, travel health insurance, vaccination record.
Contacts
The most valuable resource is people who live there. On our map you will find families who have already answered these questions.
